200' of 5/16 - G4 shackled to a Danforth plow has served us well for a number of years. Feels like we're sitting on a mooring. I don't care for all that weight forward and now I'm adding more but nearly half the chain is lead aft to a bin located over the keel. We used to have 60' of 3/8" chain and 5/8" 3 strand. With a relatively high bow and cutaway forefoot keel the boat would sail around quite a bit in a breeze. A number of years ago, after spending three breezy days anchored at Duck Harbor with another couple who had two kids our son's age, we hauled anchor to find the line chaffed down to a single strand.
