Ah ha... perhaps I didn't read Steve's response right...
I thought he referred to the jostling that the boat would take on the road. (although I did not quite understand the leak aspect).
BTW my boat is a very dry boat. Even taking waves over the bow, it sheds those very well. (of course a 1300 mile "bash" could easily show otherwise... eh?)
