Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

Well, I do agree that we are all different (And that you are a bit cranky at 68 )

I am also sorry that you have some physical issues at 68. (Hope you feel better real soon).

I still think that what I wrote “59 is a very capable age for a sailor” is very true (potentially) however not for everyone, as nothing in life is "for everyone" or it would be too crowded out there . So the two statements hold true at the same time. I do not think I am being thoughtless for having this opinion.(And we all know what opinions are like ).

Like a few other sailors on this board I have the opinion that 59 is a great age for a sailor based on MY situation, MY experience, and MY observations. I am not suggesting that every person at 59 should be a sailor...

And like a few members of this board I am willing to write here WHY I have this opinion. So again... I wrote about my crew and their age as I do try to have people who are able and capable to enjoy the type of sailing I so. My 72 YO crew had fun during the Atlantic crossing (However stated that this was probably his last one and he will stick to coastal sailing from now on.) My father who sailed with me from California to Israel when he was 75 without a problem still sailed the Caribbean at 79 and just sailed a blue water overnight rough sail at 87. So as stated here mileage will vary, as Charlie and Larry wrote here, I too intend to do my best at sailing as long as I can and hope that my body and health will cooperate.

As to being cranky, I think this is more of a choice then destiny.:-) So I’ll do my best to just be happy and sail as much as I can.
