We didn't get there this season but paid 55 for a mooring last.

I'd like to know the real truth on that too Jon. I'd still go up to the head of the harbor next time, anchor, and appologize if there was a problem.

We spent a couple nice nights anchored outside Edgartown. In the right weather, that's my idea of a nice open anchorage. There were just 4 or 5 of us there(plus the one or two megayachts way out). Some are leery of the current but I find it holds the boat steady and limits rolling, of which there was none as it was late in the season.

I can't imagine wanting to take a mooring inside which seems like a crazy place half the time. No where near the scenery either. You have public beaches around the boat outside. We dinghy sailed back and forth to town or just for fun, rowed a lot. We took our bikes onto Chapiquidick and rode the only road one day.

Again, the right weather only, but it's great. Same with Cutty. I'd prefer to pay to anchor there over mooring inside where we find it noisy and smokey. Thankfully, it's still free, and shallow.
