Ron,
I went with a lot of personal (emotional) baggage. I lost some good friends there. And when we came home, it was not with open arms and a big welcome. So, putting that aside, I can't say this trip was as fun as others. Vietnam is a communist country and the people we talked to spoke from both sides. The propaganda was almost overwhelming. But I guess the winners get to write the history.
When asked about the relationship with China, the locals said they would like the US to help if China wanted to invade.... OVER MY DEAD BODY!
We were told (with a straight face) the the US called the prison “the Hanoi Hilton” was because they treated pensioners so well!
We did enjoy Cambodia.
It was a packaged tour, from AAA. I had to do it to face some of my own demons. AND, I LOVED the looks of the boat. That part of the trip was GREAT.
We visited one of the fish farms. It really opened my eyes! We have seen the farms in Mexico and were impressed with the operation, NOT SO in Asia!
