I've seen tanks as big as 4000 gallons..BIL has seven of them.

He has the advantage of living in a dry area farther south drainagewise and on a hillside. He has four tanks buried behind the house, three down the hill. In a drier area tanks are less likely to float when the water level in the ground rises. He has the tanks due to an area of barely pumping wells, not enough for fire protection and gardening. Farther down the hill he even put in a Fire Department standpipe. Helps keep his fire insurance lower.

Here in the valley, the water table is damn near at the surface in the winter, I swear.
