I read that approximately 75 percent of the processed food in American grocery stores has genetically-engineered ingredients. Even beans and grains and other crops are genetically engineered, and labeling for "certified organic" has hundreds of FDA loop holes allowing processed and genetic modified foods to be labeled as such while a purist would argue they're not acceptable.
There are some alarmist claims that these genetically modified foods are designed to interfere with insects and other plant infestation but that the human genome is also negatively impacted in ways that aren't fully explored or tested for. We share many of the same genetic patterns as some of these "infestations".
