Did anyone ever blame paper charts or sextants? You can certainly blame people for not knowing how to use the tools available, but that is also the case for paper charts and sextants.
I said this earlier - many shipwrecks have occurred before the electron was even discovered, and many have occurred in modern times without electronic charting. For some reason, electronic charts and charting seem to be a lighting rod for blame when other methods got a free pass in the past.
I know people in the past were taking the same chances in cutting things close by using bearings and waypoints passed on to them from others. Or just going along with "you will be fine going over those rocks as long as you wait until 1hr before high tide". And I know people now who take those chances without using any charts or charting at all. There will always be those people.
