First of all, in terms of fatal accidents, those involving the sort of "Auxiliary Sailboats" most of us here sail comprise only 1-2 % of those totals over the past decade...
The CG doesn't even categorize accidents by "Navigational Error"... You may be willing to categorize things like Alcohol Impairment (the #1 contributing factor to US boating fatalities), Operator Inattention, etc as being reflective of 'navigational error', but I'm not... 85% of the fatal accidents in 2012 involved "Open Motorboats, Canoes/Kayaks, Personal Watercraft, Pontoons, Rowboats, and Inflatables", how many of those incidents do you suppose might have been related to the sort of electronic or non-electronic navigation they were employing at the time?
I'd simply like to see more statistics related specifically to the subject we're discussing, but I suspect they just don't exist, being so comparatively small in number or percentage... Hence, we are left with our own observations, or the sort of conclusions that the investigative authorities have drawn from incidents like the grounding of the oil barge in LIS that I cited earlier...
