Again, my point is simply that GPS made that so EASY to do, in this case - you can obtain a heading and distance to any destination - as long as the coordinates of the waypoint are known - without ever so much as glancing at a chart, or double-checking to make sure the course is clear of any dangers... Using the more primitive method on paper, the first step is to draw that line...
Sorry to get you all riled up about the photo (grin), but I actually did not intend to attach it to this post, it was a sticky from my reply to your thread about the Salty Dog Rally, and fit in with my crack about re-naming the Caribbean 1500 to something like the Oyster/Hylas Rally... That boat is simply typical of what I've seen down in Hampton( what caught my eye was not the enclosure, but the dinghy) and reflects only the relative offshore inexperience of a number of the participants, in thinking that's a sensible way to stow a tender for a 1500 mile bluewater passage... (grin)
