The photo doesn't tell me they are any less or more prudent sailors than you are, just because you hate biminis. They may be taking precautions against skin cancer. That's smart. And they may want better weather protection for living aboard. I get that.
The US government prints it's last run of paper charts in April, 2014.

- Electronic navigation has surely drawn in more people who cannot be bothered with learning navigation though.
