Again I cite that you can sail without electricity at all...

I know of more than one boat that has had total electric failure at sea. Just how do you plan on charging that iphone in the event of total electric failure? Yeah I know, solar panels... which work through a complicated charge controller.
Of course you really don't NEED a compass... a sunstone will work almost as well.
