I only use a compass when I sleep
In Response To: Compass on a boat? ()

Don't use the one on my binnacle either, but it is nice to have, like the paper charts I haven't used in more than a decade.

I use a Plastimo Iris 100 mounted overhead in the V-berth as a tell-tale compass. It tells me when the wind/current has shifted and is the first thing I look at when doing a quick check during the night. It also is a very good hand-bearing compass, but I have one integrated in my binos which is generally my first choice.
