I was just making the counter point to all the posts on how irresponsible it is to not have a mechanical compass or that one can't steer as well with an electronic compass.
The sensor itself is often rate-stabilized in several dimensions, so you have a roll, pitch and yaw immune reading. They are also self-calibrated, don't lose calibration and automatically adjust for magnetic variation. I guess those could be advantages.
Also, the graphics of the display itself can be changed to better suite your personal preferences (not on the model I posted previous - I am talking about a compass sensor that feeds information to a display). Here is another choice.
