I've had the same experiance on the radar

() I have an older Raymarine 48 mile range--I forget the model as I didn't install it. It has three adjustable preset levels of sensitivity: harbor, coastal and offshore, as well as "enhanced echos",automatic fine tuning and gain all of which can be adjusted. I'm shocked on what it misses coming out of the fog towards me or nearby!
