But Jon, to be fair to that HR owner, he simply needs to push a button to get a 12" compass right on that screen. I bet you could see that without your glasses. And the electronic compass hooked to it has a data update rate of 20 times per second, so there is no lag. And the compass is roll, pitch and yaw compensated and stabilized. And calibrates itself automatically. And stays calibrated. And automatically compensates for magnetic variation. In fact, in almost every way, it is a superior piece of gear to a manual compass.
But I still prefer a manual compass - have yet to train my brain away from it, but I honestly use a compass so rarely that I don't give it a chance.
