I said I used it to guestimate rough bearings while underway. If I need exact bearings, I use the hand bearing compass. Or simply put the cursor on the radar return. Or use the MARPA function and have those data continuously. One would be insane to compete with us in cruising - we will out-nap, out-swim and out-cocktail hour anyone anywhere.

Our boat is the typical mount in front of the wheel on the steering bulkhead - there really is no reasonable place to mount it so that I could take lubber bearing sights across it. A hand held is much more convenient. Since its top is fully open and I look straight down on it from the helm seat, it is easy to get rough bearings in all directions.
