Solar panels with internal diodes are more sensitive

We had a strike about 5 years ago. Pretty much everything with diodes that was connected was toast. Even the engine starter circuit. I now have a set of engine harness diodes in my spares.
Ever see a stainless whip like this? Note the screw-on coax connector went missing. It was taped-over with white electric tape to seal out moisture. I still wonder: How did it unscrew?
