Explain to me other than "it's traditional" why I should replace a broken tool that hasn't been used in 10 years

I'm an old guy and have been sailing for over 40 years....I should be the one on the other side but at this point, I don't see the logic in it. Keep in mind I'm not removing the safety factor of having one aboard, i.e. one in my phone, any small one somewhere about the boat. I simply don't use a compass and haven't for a long time.
Used since 206BC is not a good reason.
