Is there any advantage to a digital compass?

() I've never used one like that with a simulated card, only the digital read out ones. Is there anything about the digital compass that makes it better or easier to use? It would have to be something good to justify the premium price.
BTW, I just flipped through your Mirth photos and there is some good stuff in there
