according to their sizing chart, the 16.5lb claw is suitable for 25' - 35' boats. They don't specify wind speeds in the chart but I figure that at 30'LOA we are in the middle of the chart?
I have been doing some research on that odd looking Danforth as well. What keeps coming up from mister Google when looking for a Danforth model 1650 is that it may be an early version of a model called a "Deepset". I have not been able to find a corresponding photo though. The one article from yet another anchor test in 2000 suggested either a 1650 Deepset, 1600 standard Danforth, a 16.5lb Bruce or 25lb CQR for a 30' boat. I also found another article that said the 1650 indicates that the anchor has 1650 lbs. of holding power in 20knt winds.
I find it interesting that Danforth seems to have gone in a couple different directions. Our Catalina 27 came with a Danforth under the v-berth. That Danforth name was cast into the shank of what appeared to be a 25lb CQR design.
