Rocna and Manson (and others like Spade and Fortress) have actually done pull testing and wind/sea/area calculations to come up with their size recommendations. So they are correctly sized.
Older designs like CQR and Delta simply guessed or let their marketing department decide. That is why the meme exists widely that one should get an anchor 1-2 sizes larger than the manufacturer recommendation. If the manufacturer recommendations actually had any basis in fact or reality, then this meme wouldn't exist.
But even weight for weight, if you have never used a more modern anchor like a Rocna, Supreme or Spade, you won't believe the significant difference in setting and holding from a CQR or Delta.
If you are looking for a new anchor, there are several modern designs without a roll bar. Several of them are also made in aluminum, if weight is a concern. I don't know what type of boat you have, but can tell you that if a 65# CQR is working for you now, you will be able to get a lighter modern anchor that works equally as well (if not better). For example, we have a heavy 40' catamaran and our 55# Rocna is oversized for it - it is recommended for a 50' mono. Similarly, Spade's 55# model is rated for a 60' mono.
