We puttered around the island to an area I remember (always risky process these days) as Yokohama Bight. Just a bit of a headland from which to kick off to the crossing. We anchored his 35# CQR in shallows about a 1/4 mile from shore, fished a bit and then turned in for an afternoon nap before the night. When awakened by something "off" we had dragged anchor into deeper water and had drifted nearly a mile parallel to shore but at a slight outward angle. Holy cow. Mercifully no issues save embarrassment at having dragged. Hardly anyone on the shore so not the usual ten thousand to witness a faux pas.
