The CQR was designed in the early 30's. The Delta 65 years later. We changed from a CQR to Delta in 2002 just before the Rocna & Manson became available. The setting consistancy and holding power of the Delta was incredibly better than the CQR.

Although not considered a new style anchor the Delta is more like a transitional style, somewhere between the CQR & Rocna but definately not the old style anchor you suggest. 25,000 miles of coastal cruising and anchoring has proven that for us.

Having said that, if it was known to us in 2002 we would have purchased a Rocna.
