I had Nobeltec PC-based radar and it went along with the boat when I sold Symmetri.
When radar is most needed -- it is needed in the cockpit where people are keeping a careful watch. PCs are too fragile and must be protected from shock/moisture, vs. the weatherproof displays of radar units. But you can't beat Coastal Explorer or Nobeltec for navigation planning.
I'm currently using Coastal Explorer for PC-based navigation at the protected nav station... weatherproof displays out at the helm: A small-screen Garmin chartplotter (GPS478) for eyeball-navigation decision-support assistance and a Raymarine RL70c radar display.
