Look for the 701 model, but NOT the surf model. I put XP on ours, but it now comes with XP. Also get an 8 or 16 Gb SD card (or 2) to use as the second hard drive. Then put a copy of "Portable Apps" on the SD card and you have all of the normal programs you need. Portable Apps is at: http://portableapps.com/

I also got a USB puck GPS for about $25.00 and that works with my OpenCPN backup nav program.

I have not had any problems with ours. The 7 inch screen is small, but seems to work for us. It's SO easy to take ashore with us! We picked up a soft small dry bag from REI that is normally used for kayaking.
