I had an experience
In Response To: Paper chart lecture.... (link) ()

this summer which totally reinforced my decision to 'get the paper charts'. On the west coast of Vancouver island there are a few Sounds that are total rock gardens... awash, just under, unmarked, but still charted. I entered the sound on chart plotter and the scale suddenly switched or the detail at least did (possible compatibility issue with older Garmin plotter and newer Bluechart chips). I quickly plotted a position on my paper chart but would have been in a world of potential hurt without em. The plotter was WAY too generally to have gotten out of there without a great deal of luck.

Nope, paper is mandatory for me. The chartplotter is wonderful when you can use it in familiar waters but given the choice, I'll stick with paper. It irks me that for the most part, I now have to spend more money maintaining two systems but when the budget is tight, it's paper.
