My primary shipboard computer lives around the corner in the walkthrough to the aft cabin ( the quarter berth would be as good) . Its a mini black box jobbie which was state of the art 6 or 7 years ago. Long leads from there to the chart table and a permanent mounted LCD screen ( with a plastic bag that goes over it when in 'wet' conditions. Also a wireless mouse and one of those floppy waterproof keyboards that you can hang on a nail when not in use. Backup is a Dell mini 9 which can run ( and is loaded up with ) all the same stuff and which can be taken up the road on wifi hunts. If the black box dies ( again) its just a matter of changing the leads over. Another interesting thing is that the Dell mini 9 ( and I believe the basic Dell 10 ) can be turned into a Hackintosh... just Google that for info. I'd post photos but the navigatorium looks like a bomb has recently gorn off it in it just now.
