I think you can get Larrys boat with 150 hp Todd. It'll plane I imagine.

But you can likely also get it with some anemic little engine as well, and like many sailboats(displacement hulls), feel the wonder of,... underpowered in too much wind and sea.... 
My opinion from experience in adverse conditions, Larrys boat is not overpowered.
