I never use the Windlass unless the engine is running ...

... lots of times I see cruisers sending crew up the mast to do whatever it is they need to do and using the windlass ... without the engine running, and that can't be good for the windlass. I do use mine to go up the mast, but the engine is always running and I don't think the windlass misses a beat. Cheers, John
