Telll me about Pamlico sound and the Neuse River
I know a few folks from this area that retired down that way.
But the water is brown in color as I recall
What do you plan to do?
I retired from SoCal to Oriental 3 years ago.
That's something like what I am looking for...
With your Orion (I forgot) you draw 4'
southeast living
Add easy access to the Chesapeake
Good point... just to the north.
It's what, 200 nm to the lower end of the Bay.
A bit less
With a 4 ft draft, a tolerance of a little heat and some Mosquitos, you could spend years exploring the Chesapeake.
So please tell us more about Chesapeake
Cape May to Little Creek VA is not bad
Vinings, Little Creek, Baypoint all owned and managed by the same company now...
Thanks Jon
It took us 4 days of daysailing either way...
And in Block Island, they deliver..
They DO take out the trash...
Andiamo
Prego ;^))))
Block Island Pastry
Aldo's Bakery?
It's on the tip of my tongue, I can't find the name on a web search.
They greet you with a hailing of "andiamo " somewhat oddly pronounced)
"I gotta no change"
Here' Andiamo John in 2002
Block Island Pastry
I remember that it was funny. Best tips that way.
Sailing the Chesapeake in Summer
My favorite Snowbird itinerary is from Maine to the Chesapeake Bay, or vice-versa.
Thanks SG. Not this year.
We retired from PA to MD

Some interesting waters in and around Oriental...
There is. I just 'cruised it' on the e-charts.
Great place!
Live in Oriental or nearby or? I looked at real estate in the area last evening for amusement.
and concluded what?
Not much. Lots seem really cheap, some waterfront available to build. Built waterfront not so cheap but.....
There's no substitute for going there
Or too hot and muggy...
San Diego has a lot more going for it
Indeed San Diego IS a wonderful area...
Shovel?
You folks in snow areas are having a particularly bad year too...
Everyplace is a compromise
Affordable, interesting, high quality of life, great weather, world class sailing ground, easy....
And, take advantage of your high realestate value, rent your home.
This has been a consideration for a long time...
That's a lot of hours. Not much time left in the week.
Oh the irony abounds...
Sorry to hear that Gene
Gene, SO SORRY to hear, but....
On the bright side, that stops the 60+ hour per week rat race, Gene.
That's a drag, Gene.
Amen
What sort of engineering, Gene?
Design of wireless products...
There are employment centers for high tech -- electronics.
Take the work. On contract, the rate
That was the decision I made in 2006
Gene, do what I did. Buy a condo
HaH! Even here in south Texas, on the shore of Matagorda Bay, the forecast for Tuesday night-
Well truth be told... we do have snow in San Diego...
Christmas Eve,2004, we had a foot!! First measurable snowfall in 105 years
If you want an area a little more urban than Oriental
There's a thread on this question on Ask All Sailors, with a lot of first hand experience.
