Well truth be told... we do have snow in San Diego...

at least in the county... up at the 4700 foot level in the mountains... back in December... And I think we had some back in early Feb too... just a dusting though. The stuff back in Dec was heavy enough to close some roads....

"By mid-afternoon, about 1-2 inches of snow had fallen on Palomar Mountain in areas of about 4,700 feet, according to the county Department of Public Works, which dispatched three employees to plow. Snow chains were not required on the mountain.
Snow and icy roads were predicted for Interstate 8 between Alpine and Jacumba, and the National Weather Service suggested emergency travel only towards El Centro.
Interstate 8 has three summits above the 4,000-foot level in East County, and the freeway towards Arizona is frequently restricted to chains and 25 mile-per-hour traffic, or closed, in such weather. Heavy winds were noted at midday, but the road was clear, California Highway Patrol officers said."

So yeah, I mean if I really want snow, I can go visit it in about 45 minutes... and a couple of times while sailing down in the big bay in San Diego, I have seen snow in the mountains while the weather down in the bay was in the mid '60s and comfortable (I'd love to get a photo of that... as it is quite pretty... but I never seem to have my camera at the right moment). We do get snow as low as the 4000 foot level at times... enough to close roads up in the mountain areas... and even enough to go and build a snowman... if you are so inclined. It sure is pretty to see... downtown in the foreground, snow in the mountains in the background... conditions have to be just right though as the weather systems can obscure the mountains.

And in fact there was snow some 44 years ago... http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/snow-in-san-diego-it-happened/58957 I wasn't here for that... but I seem to recall a few snowflakes falling at least one other time in the late 70s or early 80s... they never reached the ground... but there was white stuff falling.

And truth be told... heck, I was born in Chicago... I do know snow.
