We keep our 28-ft Shearwater Yawl beside our garage under a tarp
In Response To: Boat ownership costs ()

Costs this year were for insurance (BoatUS), ourboard motor winterizing and coolong water impeller installation, a pair of new tires for the trailer, trailer license, WEST-System supplies for a hull modification project, and fuel costs to tow the boat where we want to sail, all totalling something less than $900.

Just counting long trips, we towed TRUE NORTH from N Illinois to Mattapoisette, MA and to Kentucky Lake in 2009. Diesel fuel costs are reduced because we leave home with 70 gallons of waste vegetasble oil which takes us 900 miles.

A couple of years ago I bought a new mainsail, but did not have the tire replacemet nor WEST-System expenses. Other annual totals included WEST-System supplied for new leeboards (one/year) but no sails or tires.

As you can see, we stay well below $100/year regardless of how we spend it.
