Cost of ownership...

Annual costs to keep a sailboat

Priceless. Probably one of the more stable investments that I've held in the last three years. :)

Annual costs to keep a sailboat
costs
My Expenses
Your cost is very low
I think you guys are nuts ... Plan to spend 10% of your boats value, excluding
I've never unstood basing cost on the price
It's not related to price, except insurance
I get good rates on storage and labor
Your storage situation is great, but your own mooring isn't without expense or maintenance (pic)
I included annual fees, inspection and amortized replacement of mooring parts...
Hey, Todd --what's the cost up there to sink a mooring? And a few other mooring qn's for you.
Jud - my mooring cost $1,400...
Was just now quoted $6K - $9K !!!
60' is pretty deep..depth really increases the cost....
Todd...thanks a ton for the info. Anyone have any experience or info about all-rope moorings?
I'm suspicious of those rope moorings -- because any hard marine growth will cause chafe (pic)
Trust me Larry
The mooring service people here run barges...
I could stand corrected, then
It's all local. Ours are inspected by diving or lifting. Once a year, and gets a town inspection tag. (nm)

Boat ownership costs
We keep our 28-ft Shearwater Yawl beside our garage under a tarp
Annual boat costs

Cost of ownership...
Beautiful, Peter... hmmm, that spot sure looks familiar (grin) (nm)
I'm lucky, most of my expenses come from USING my boat, as opposed to simply owning her... (grin)
Your low costs to keep your boat just prove what a great deal Maine is for public access to the water. (pic)
Actually my costs have nothing to do with public access in Maine...
I'm surprised. I would think you could rent mooring space from the town up there.
I do pay a mooring fee to the town, but...
That the town allows you setting a mooring and has shoreland for you to get there, is public access.
If you divide the $/month, it's not quite so inexpensive ;^) (nm)
Very clever Steve. :) (nm)
Sheeit, I paid that much just for slip fee.
I would rather not give it too much thought
Same here
We can always count on another $500 to $1000
Yes we have it pretty good here. I kept a boat in Falmouth Foreside for a season.
Oh yeah, it's dirt cheap compared to a lot of places
Actually
Southwest Harbor has three town docks...
Little Harbor in Portsmouth has no town dock
Of course you need to amortize wear items
NYC 35' on a mooring
I didn't include amortized costs of replacement of things like sails becasue...
If you skimp on those things you pay at resale time. If you've used it up or replaced with crap, it's crap.
Another thing to consider: You don't know your total cost of ownership until after you sell.
You didn't get my point did you...
Sorry, the cost of keeping a sailboat is WAY OT for me (nm)
insurance
Why does anyone even care?
Finally -- the voice of sanity!
that's the truth
It's a familiar story (pic)
Sure is, we're in the same boat... there's good reason why boats are feminine...
Well Jon, you know what they say....
Why does anyone even care? Read the question in Todd's post, Dan.
Exactly
A boat is no different than anything else.
I wonder if Todd has in mind this new book, "Saving Sailing", or if it's just idle speculation on his part
You could always trade the tender for a sailing dingy.
That's almost what I did...
The slip fees alone on the west coast are higher than that.
sli[p fees in so cali
Thanks for making my point. (nm)
LA & San Diego Dockage very easy to find
Had no problem in San Diego either.
That price still tops what I was quoting...
SoCal slip fees have dropped significantly
Not in Alameda
Same increases at Marina Village BUT
