Another thing to consider: You don't know your total cost of ownership until after you sell.

TCO = Initial Purchase price + Expenses (all kinds, including selling expense) - Resale revenue

I've been very fortunate to sell my last two boats for more than I paid for initial plus upgrades, so that helped reduce TCO. Even so, the total TCO was net cash negative.
