BTW - 2 days before Irene hit

I beat to windward from Greenport to Port Jeff in a SW that was steady in the mid-forties (knots), and that's a lot of wind. Fortunately I was within about 1-3 miles of the windward shore so the waves were only about 2-3 feet but it was steep chop that still kicked my butt. Was able to pull into Port Jeff after too many hours of that but I wouldn't want to deal 24/7 in bigger waves offshore.
