Bilge and batteries, amen to that

Throw in boats, as in watching for ships, and those are three priorities on my boat.
I will be trying out a simple battery-operated bilge alarm that someone(s) on this thread suggested awhile back. And of course AIS is huge help watching for ships. And with the battery monitor prominently displayed, and changing colors when the Voltage gets down, it would be pretty hard to drain the batteries without at least being aware of it happening.
It did sound like loss of power might have been a final straw, as it so significantly changes the complexion of your onboard capabilities (communication, bilge pumps, autopilot, possibly cooking etc)
