Two of them -- I wonder about that...

On the ill fated Alpha 42, I'm not sure that the rudder "free wheeling" occured at the same time as the "bending" of the other. They describe having to lock the wheel over "hard" just to forereach at that speed? I wonder if the damage hadn't occured previously.

As for the size, it looks more like a powerboat rudder. The Cats I've seen have more substantial rudders in terms of depth. I recall them as being more high aspect than than too.

The professed "maximum speed" for the boat wasn't all that high (10 knots, or so).

Also, as you're sailing the boat, doesn't one hull end-up more heavily loaded than the other? It's not the keel, its a control surface.
