The difference is hull speed. Unless the mono can surf, it hits a wall at hull speed that's more easily overcome by the narrow BWL of most multihulls.
But in retrospect, it was a mistake to throw in that video drag race, because it diverted from my main point. The main point I was making is that pointing ability is not closely tied to hull configuration (mono vs. multi) but more closely related to sheeting angles and underwater foil.
