The rudder, is a different story. I had a friend with a rudder which was locked. We had been through a brief, but violent thunderstorm. The helm had been held hard over and wouldn't come back.
I did a dumpster dive into the cockpit lockers. Hoping the rudder hadn't been bent.
It turned out that it had come beyond the stop and was trapped. I managed to remove the Edson stop with a wrench and stout screw driver. Voila, we were back in business.
The helmsman didn't know her own strength in the white knuckle brief wind storm. ;^)))
