I would have thought that the boat could have been sailed, even with a bent rudder. Maybe this has been discussed in this thread, but seems a drogue bridled between each quarter to two sheet winches would allow some downwind sailing/ steering. The boat doesn't seem to be in too much danger of sinking. More like bobbing like a cork.

Ironically, the couple that are on her are from my little town here in Bloomington, Indiana. I saw this in the paper. I don't know them, but might be able to reach them.

Also, I hate second guessing, so put my statements clearly in that filing cabinet.
