...on such a boat, with a canting keel... Remember, the keel bulb would be positioned way out to windward (to port) at the time of impact.... many are speculating that it was likely one of the daggerboards that actually struck the reef initially...
In addition to increasing the draft dramatically, it likely would have had the immediate effect of laying the boat on its ear, to port - and quite likely resulted in one or more of the guys on deck going overboard, as no one seems to be tethered...
This ain't the kind of sailing you and I do, that's for damn sure...
