conversation prior to the race centers around the forecasted weather out at "Four Corners" and the prospects that the off shore winds will hold through out the night. Inside or outside, so why did they put a waypoint right on the island? You put it outside or inside of the island unless you were planning on changing it later. Or, you didn't see the islands. What ever the reason, both teams landed on the bricks. Well charted bricks at that. Unless they were tag teaming the navigation and each person thought the other had scrutinized the chart, the fault is with the navigator who didn't do his due diligence. The possibility that the Ensenada crew fell asleep is right up on the top of my cause list and that they were planning on deciding later on the side to take the islands. What happened on with the Volvo guys boggles my mind. Here you are in an area strewn with reefs doing close to 20 knots and you miss seeing one on the chart? I can see a short handed mom and pop team with a low end to mid range chart plotter screwing up but these guys are suppose to be at the top of the sport with the absolute best equipment on the market. I don't get it.
