I like e charts and use them for most tasks. However even currently, if I had the choice of a moving map on top of raster (RNC) charts on the helm chart plotter, I would probably choose that option today (the new Raymarine and probably others offer this). On the Mac, there are programs that display the RNC but back it up with the ENC, such that you get the artistry and readability of RNC with the click ability of ENC - best of both worlds today. Don't think that exists in a waterproof daylight readable version, but maybe I'm wrong. Someday there will be enough simulated artistry in e-charts to rival raster (this sort of thing is getting close in CAD rendering for example).

- Well, I'm not proposing that these racers should be navigating solely using paper charts at all...

- I can see that happening. I had to zoom out to 90 NM for those islands to disappear on an ipad.
