Do you remember the days of, "Oh my god, it's official, I don't know where we are?"

I remember too many. A few times I didn't inform my family, but usually they felt the panic.

The solution was always the same, STOP THE BOAT! Then there were tense moments going below and re plotting loran co-ordinates, if available(not often in the Bahamas)-then plotting lines with pencils and rules, taking bearings(if available) and plotting those lines, then back tracking depths from the sounder(if it was working).

What a relief it was to find myself! A few times, I couldn't, find myself. Once off Key Biscayne in ink black night, we gladly rolled over on a sand bar and fell asleep on the ceiling. The next morning, I could see enough info around me, to find us.

Everybody has systems that work best for them. Racers can't give up speed so I think plotting along on paper isn't coming back. And their speed today, as you mention, makes their-speed or die- navigation, tricky.
