The rich are richer. AND it's easier to sail the boats now than in the past. Also, the cost of a slightly used 40 footer can be less than a new 27 foot boat. I think most people, as they get older want more comfort, and equate larger boats with more comfort.

When I first started dreaming of going cruising, about 30~ foot was the size of choice. As time went on, I saw that number grow to about 40~ foot. I now see it growing once more. An interesting subject...
