Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

Could you attribute this to many boomers having the means today to do this, and these are not their first boats.

Anyone I can think of now doing some retirement cruising like this(rally's), made money over the years-often in amassing home equity which they have dipped into by downsizing, maybe pay for a boat size upgrade?

Most I know also started sailing in small boats, 22's 26's etc, and then as they grew in means and needs, they have ended up in larger boats today. It seems many of us that sailed our adult lives, up-sized our boats over the years and end up with our biggest, at retirement time. A parallel to housing?

I'm sure there are newbies in big new boats, I just don't know many(any?). And some did "go small, go now" when they were younger, but the majority didn't. Now some of them are doing it. Late "kroozers"?
