It's been quite a while since I've posted, and this is a great thread to get back into the swing of it. Confession: We've gone the bigger boat route too. After tons of fun on RAMBLE, our 36' Little Harbor yawl (wood, so more like a 32' fiberglass boat), we took a couple of years off from distance sailing to enjoy new grand kids, a blast. Now their parents want to take them sailing, at some point for at least a year. Woo hoo, but three generations of us won't fit on sweet RAMBLE, which is a blast to sail and turns heads but wouldn't be called commodious. Confronted with this wonderful "problem," we've moved up too: Hood Wauquiez 38'. Took a while to find what we were looking for - no teak deck, no second head - but did on the Gulf side of Florida. Sailed her up to Maine home waters and getting her - RAMBLE TOO - ready to head to the Caribbean in a few weeks where grand kids and "kids" join up. She won't turn heads as much, which is fine, but she too sails wonderfully - everybody's boat sails wonderfully, right? - and probably a little less maintenance. We love a crowd, but I still want to be able to single hand, mostly by hand, and I think I've peaked in terms of strength. So this is BIG for me. Great to see some familiar posters, fellow Old Farts.
