They are at 26N, 69W, conditions are good, wind is light from ENE, long gentle seas, they are having a nice time now. They are sailing 155-160m, trying to make as much easting as possible.
But from what Tom heard on the radio, things are fugly back in the stream. Boats are experiencing 40-50 kts. 3 boats have lost rudders, one boat apparently hove-to before getting to the stream, and another boat is taking on water and plans are being made with USCG to abandon it. I did some googling but have not been able to find out anything else on these incidents. Anyone out there have any more info?
For DISTANT STAR, they should see the wind head them tomorrow, shifting to ESE, but light at 4-8 kts, then shifting to E again on Saturday. I don't expect to hear from them until they reach wi-fi in the BVIs, unless conditions change and they want me to provide them more info. Looks like they will have a nice time the rest of the way in, maybe motoring a bit much, but better than riding a gale.
