I remember a short hop from St. Martin to Bequea. We were heading out and called into David Jones during his check in to tell him of our plans. He had been talking for a couple of days about a front coming in and responded in typical British humor "Shouldn't you be hunkering down now?"
Yes we should have been. About 4 hours later and 2/3d's of the way to Bequea I looked behind and there was a black wall from horizon to horizon. We quickly shortened canvas and it hit. 60 knots of horizontal wind and rain. Lost sight of a large Catana catamaran that was 1 miles ahead. When the front cleared he was 3 miles behind us on the other side. Never saw us pass him but it must have been close
I'll never forget that black wall behind us.
